Getting Started

When do classes start?

The dance year starts the week after Labour Day. The studio is closed on Statutory Holidays (consult calendar).

How long is the dance season?

Classes run from September to May or early June, ending with year-end showcases at the end of the season. We also offer 6 week programs at various times throughout and after the season.

Do all students participate in the year-end shows?

All choreography students, minis, recreational, and competitive, who are registered in our full season programs take part in the year-end shows unless they request not to. Adult participation in the year end recitals is completely optional.

What do I owe to start?

Each student’s non-refundable registration and insurance fee (includes GST) is due at the time of registration, as well as the first month’s tuition installment. All fees and payment schedules are on our Schedule & Fees page.

How do I pay?

Payments are made via online auto-payments, which we set up during the registration process. Inquire at the studio about other payment options. There is a $10.00 fee for any payments received after the 5th of the month.

What other costs will I incur?

Costume deposits ($60 per costume for child-size costumes and $85 per costume for adult-size costumes) are due November 1. With many students in two or more dances, a large number of costumes are ordered for competitions and the year-end shows, so they need to be ordered ahead of time. The remaining costume fee balances, if any, are due prior to picture day in May, when students receive their costumes. Dancers keep their costumes at the end of the season.

A Year-End Package Fee (includes 2 showcase tickets, 1 professional photo, and a showcase video) and any extra tickets you want to buy for the Year-End Showcases are additional costs.

What does my child wear to class?
All of the dance dress codes are listed on our website at

How do I find out about upcoming events and announcements?

Registered dance families receive studio updates on a regular basis, and are invited to join our Secret Facebook group, which we update frequently.

Teachers run classes on a rigid schedule and do not have time to talk to parents between classes; we ask that questions for your child’s teacher be emailed to silverhopedanceacademy@gmail.com Attn: teacher’s name.
